It’s hard to look around this province and not see the positive impact this company has made, shaping the way we travel safely across our beautiful province. From the mountains in the east, to the jagged coastline in the west; the desert in the south, to the amazing long summer nights in the north, we love every corner of this province and it is time to celebrate all of its natural beauty this Monday, August 7, on B.C. Day.

We recently celebrated our first 100 years of work in this province (which can be viewed here) and have no plans on slowing down anytime soon, as all our crews are busy all over B.C.

Last month, Dawson Civil put the finishing touches on a significant reconfiguration of the TransCanada Highway west of Chase. Our team carved out a new, safer two-lane highway and added proper drainage systems, underpasses and enhanced frontage roads.

There hasn’t been any down time for Civil, as this past winter they began working on a rehabilitation and realignment of Dunn Lake Road, a local highway just north of Barrière.

The 10-kilometre section of highway that previously existed was very windy, unsafe in parts, had poor drainage and was a dirt road. Civil came in, installed more than 20 culverts of different sizes to allow better water flow during freshet, smoothed out many of those challenging corners and prepped the highway for paving, all while doing a fantastic job looking after the environment. The local community has been very pleased with the work and communication from our Civil team.

Dawson Construction, our paving division, has already completed resurfacing projects in Service Area (SA) 16 and 17, paving parts of Canim Lake Road, Horse Lake Road and West Point Road. They put the new asphalt down on the Civil’s Chase West project and worked close to home when they put down 54,000 tonnes of hotmix on different sections of the TransCanada Highway in Kamloops.

Currently, they are laying down 54.3 lane kms of asphalt on Highway 97 near Hixon, as well as many parking lots all over the province.

Our Dawson Road Maintenance (DRM) team has had another very busy first half of the year keeping many of those highways safe for travelers.

All four of our Service Areas (SA) (16, 17, 22 and 25) performed admirably during another long winter, with some record-breaking storms and snow, keeping our crews very busy. Winter operations will receive a boost this upcoming season, as our SAs are receiving new fleets of equipment to further enhance their daily work.

One unfortunate trend in this province has been the presence of forest fires during our summer months. Some areas have experienced record-breaking fires that have occupied much of their summer. We are proud to have dedicated DRM teams that have gone miles above their duties to assist in the relentless efforts by other fire departments to battle these blazes in different corners of the province. We are very proud of them for the efforts they have made.

Dawson International Truck Centres and Dawson Idealease continue to support our local Cariboo, Thompson and Okanagan areas in regard to parts, service and sales, and are always looking for better ways to serve the community. We are also excited to announce that we have broken ground at our new state-of-the-art facility this summer in Kelowna. We are pleased to have our Civil team working on this project as well. We are tentatively scheduled to complete the new building in 2024.

Those are just a few of the many projects we have on the go in 2023 that we hope makes B.C. a wonderful place to explore and live. Wherever you find yourself on this long weekend, please find some time to enjoy our beautiful province.

Have a great B.C. Day!
